QUARTZ COUNTERTOPS CHICAGO AREA

The Look of Marble But The Durability of Granite

Quartz Countertops vs. Granite Countertops

When it comes to selecting a countertop material, it can be difficult to pick between quartz and granite, both very attractive options. The main differences have to do with the nature of the materials involved and the process of fabrication.

Why Quartz Countertops

Quartz countertops are fabricated from natural quartz, which makes for a hard surface that is very similar to a granite countertop. However, unlike granite, this surface is non-porous and highly resistant to stains, cracks, and scratches without needing to be sealed. So one advantage of quartz over granite is that sealing and resealing the surface isn’t something you’ll ever have to worry about.
Another advantage quartz countertops have over granite countertops is that you have a lot more flexibility in terms of appearance. Through the quartz countertops fabrication process, the quartz is combined with pigment and other materials, which means you have a wide array of colors to choose from; you aren’t limited to the natural color of the stone (though that’s an option too). Variations in the fabrication process can also lead to variations in appearance, from an interesting flecked surface to a beautiful smooth look.
On the other hand, quartz countertops are not as naturally heat-tolerant as their granite cousins, so you’ll want to be careful with stoves and hot pans. Of course, in a bathroom setting as opposed to a kitchen, this is a non-issue.
